SACRAMENTO - Senior Persis William-Mensah was one of 24 athletes to advance to the NCAA West Preliminary quarterfinal round in the women's 100m Thursday evening at Hornet Stadium.

The top-three in each heat plus the next six best times earned a spot in the quarterfinals that will be contested Friday at 6:15 p.m. The top-12 (three from each heat plus next three times)Β out of tomorrow's races will punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 6-9.

William-Mensah took fourth in Heat 2 of the prelims, but her 11.59 was good enough to advance based on time. She finished 22nd among 48 of the West Region's fastest 100m runners. William-Mensah, the 2018 Big West 100m champion, was the only individual from the conference to move on in the event.

William-MensahΒ will have a busy day tomorrow as she is also set to compete in the first round of the women's 200mΒ at 7:55 p.m.
Barbara Coward (Discus, 4:30 p.m.), Asa Allen (110H, 4:30 p.m.) and Brandon Lucas (200m, 7:30 p.m.)Β will also begin their NCAA West Preliminary journeys on Friday.
