UC Irvine Meet Notes
The UC Irvine women's track & field team is sending six student-athletes to Sacramento for the NCAA West Preliminary Round, May 24-26. The three-day meet will take place at Hornet Stadium with the top-12 finishers in each individual event and relay advancing to the NCAA Championships, June 6-9, in Eugene, Ore.

Senior Persis William-Mensah leads the 'Eaters as a three-event qualifier. She is slated to compete in the 100m, 200m and 4x100 relay. Junior Barbara Coward will also double up in the hammer and discus. This is the third consecutive trip to the NCAA West Prelims for both William-Mensah and Coward. Junior Hope Bushnell, junior Julia Sambvani and freshman Mikayla Scott are making their first regional appearances in the 4x100. Senior Tyra Jones will serve as an alternate to the relay.

ALL-BIG WEST ACCOLADES
The UC Irvine women had five individuals earn All-Big West distinction after placing among the top-three in their respective events at the conference championships. Persis William-Mensah was the Big West champion in the 100m and runner-up in the 200m. Barbara Coward also claimed the discus title, and took second in the hammer throw. Tyra Jones (2nd, 100H), Hope Bushnell (3rd, 200m) and Elizabeth Akindele (3rd, shot put) rounded out the all-conference performers.

β’ Coward is making her third-straight NCAA appearance in the discus, and first in the hammer.
β’ Won the discus at the Big West Championships by over 11 feet with a toss of 167-07.
β’ It was her fifth individual title of the year, and fourth in the discus.
β’ Double champion in the discus (169-03) and hammer (187-07) at the Big West Challenge on April 6.
β’ Her 187-07 obliterated her lifetime best by over 10 feet and broke a two-year old school record.
β’ Earned her third career Big West Field Athlete of the Week award for that effort.
β’ Went on to break the hammer record three more times at the Steve Scott Invitational on April 27.
β’ Finished the prelims with a heave of 188-07, before unleashing throws of 191-08 and 192-03 in the finals.
