UC Irvine Meet Notes | Video Preview
IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Lloyd Sicard and sophomore Isaiah Jewett will represent the UC Irvine men's track & field team at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 7-10.
The national meet will be held at the University of Oregon's Historic Hayward Field for the fifth year in a row. Sicard kicks things off for the 'Eaters in the 110-meter hurdle semifinals Wednesday at 5:32 p.m., while Jewett follows in the 800m at 6:14 p.m. Both Sicard and Jewett need to place first or second in their heat or have one of the next two fastest times in their respective events to advance to the final round on Friday evening. The 110H final is slated for 6:12 p.m., and the 800m final will take place at 6:44 p.m.
HOW THEY GOT HERE: Isaiah Jewett was the first Anteater to punch his ticket to Eugene as he claimed runner-up honors in his 800-meter quarterfinal heat at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships in Austin, Texas. Jewett, who is in his first year running the 800m, clocked in at 1:48.40, marking the 10th-fastest qualifying time out of the West Region. Lloyd Sicard then advanced to nationals in the 110-meter hurdles for the third-straight year as he finished second in his heat and fourth overall in the West Preliminary quarterfinal round. Sicard matched his own school record at 13.60 seconds.
A LITTLE HISTORY: Charles Jock, a 2016 Olympian and three-time All-American, was UC Irvine track & field's most recent national champion as he won the 800m at the 2012 NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Jock's victory ended a 34-year drought for the 'Eaters as he took home the program's first individual title since Steve Scott (1500m) and Mauricio Bardales (Decathlon) in 1978. Steve Scott was also a four-time NCAA Division II champion at UCI, winning the 1500m three consecutive years (1975-77), while adding an 800m title in 1977.

It's just a matter of who's going to show up on that day and I know that with my training, my body will be ready to go."
