SACRAMENTO, Calif. - UC Irvine's Lloyd Sicard will move on to tomorrow's 110-meter hurdle semifinal as he finished 16th in the first round Saturday at the USA Track & Field Championships at Hornet Stadium.
Sicard was fifth in Heat 2, which also featured Olympian and two-time NCAA champion Devon Allen. Sicard had to wait out two more sections but his 13.95 stood as one of the four time qualifiers. The Gardena, Calif., native earned second-team All-America honors and claimed his third-straight Big West 110H title as a senior at UCI. He recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology.
Sicard will run in Sunday's semifinal at 1:04 p.m. and if he is one of the top four finishers in his heat, he will compete in the finals later that day at 2:53 p.m. UCI alum Charles Jock is also set for the 800m final at 1:20 p.m. Both 110H races and the 800m final will be aired live on NBC.
The USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships serve as a qualifying meet for the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, Aug. 4-13. The top-three finishers per event will earn a spot on Team USA, should they reach the IAAF qualifying standards.
