
No. 6 UC Irvine Tops No. 9 Pacific, 8-6 To End Wolverine Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 6 UC Irvine topped No. 9 Pacific, 8-6 at the Michigan Wolverine Invitational at the Canham Natatorium Sunday.
The Anteaters finish the tournament with a 4-0 record and are 13-6 overall this season.
Junior Julie Swieca and senior McKenna Mitchell led UCI with two goals apiece. Cara Borkovec, Kelsey Thornton, Gabby Pierandozzi and Mary Brooks also added goals.
McKenna Mitchell continued her hot hand with UCI's first goal at 7:03. Julie Sweica (6:23) and Kelsey Thornton (4:00) also scored in the opening period to give UCI the 3-2 advantage.
Gabby Pierzandozzi (5:15) and Cara Borkovec (1:21) posted goals in the second period to help UCI to a 5-3 lead at the break.
Mitchell powered another one home on a pass from Mary Brooks at 7:14 (6-3) before Pacific scored back-to-back goals to narrow the margin to 6-5 heading in to the final period.
Swieca scored her second goal of the day at 7:37 to stop the Tiger momentum, 7-5. Pacific would score again to inch to 7-6 at 4:37 then Mary Brooks knocked down a penalty shot (1:53) to put the Anteaters up 8-6. Goalkeeper Jenna Phreaner stopped a penalty shot with 44 seconds to help secure the victory.
The Anteaters return home to battle Big West foe Hawaii Friday night (Mar. 10) at the Anteater Aquatics Complex. First sprint at 7:00 p.m.
