UCI Takes Down UC Davis 8-5 to Open up the Final Day of the UCI Invitational

Irvine, Calif. – The Anteaters opened up the final day of the UCI Invitational with an 8-5 win over UC Davis for a chance to win fifth place in the tournament.
UCI came out strong offensively in the first period with three goals including a beautiful wide shot by Gabby Pierandozzi with 41 seconds left in the quarter. The Aggies answered back with one by Greta Kohlmoos.
The Anteaters continued to stay strong with a second goal by Corinna Toledo and Kelli Baumgardner and Emily Carlson adding to the score as UC Irvine went into the half on top 6-3 over UC Davis.
UC Irvine blanked the Aggies in the third quarter with strong defensive moves including three saves by Annika Nelson and a steal by Emily Carlson. Keana Eldridge had the lone goal of the period.
The Anteaters finished strong as Pierandozzi lobbed a goal over Aggies goalie Olivia Husted's head with 4:21 left on the clock. The Aggies managed a couple of goals by Bryn Lutz and Allyson Hansen but UCI kept up the strong defense for the final four minutes of the game for a final score 8-5.
Next up: No.9 UC Irvine takes on No.7 Michigan for fifth place at 2:45PM at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
