UCI Takes First Match From Occidental, 21-1 in the Convergence Tournament

Claremont, Calif. – The No. 6 Anteaters defeated Occidental College in the first game of the 2016 Convergence Tournament at Pomona-Pitzer, 21-1. They tied their fourth place record with 21 goals in a game for the fourth time.
UC Irvine scored early and consistently. First period goals by Mary Brooks, Destene Albers, Hanna Lancaster, Allie Loomis and Kelli Baumgardner and a save by Annika Nelson propelled the 'Eaters to the 5-0 lead after the first quarter.
Fifteen seconds into the second quarter Gabby Pierandozzi came up with a goal followed by Emily Carlson and Loomis and three saves by Jenna Phreaner to put the Anteaters on top 8-0.
Occidental answered back with a goal of their own, but UCI continued to drive hard with goals by Corinna Toldeo and Natalie Seidemann before the first half was over.
Second-half action included three more goals by Lancaster and back-to-back shots in the final minute and a half of play by Seidemann to give her four in the match. Baumgardner, Viramontes, Brooks, Raegan Castillo, Loomis and Keana Eldridge all contributed with a goal of their own in the last half. Phreaner recorded three saves in the second half.
For the second game of the day (Mar.4), UCI is at Pomona-Pitzer at 2:00 p.m.
