Off The Block Tabs UC Irvine Duo Finalists For End Of Season Awards

Irvine, Calif. -- Opposite Zack La Cavera and outside hitter Tamir Hershko are finalist for two Off The Block end of the year awards.
La Cavera is a finalists for the inaugural Bryan Ivie Award, which also includes Pepperdine's Parker Kalmbach, and Hawai'I's Brook Sedore. The new college men's volleyball award, which is given to the nation's best opposite, is named after the former U.S. Olympian and USC All-American opposite Bryan Ive.
La Cavera is second in the MPSF and among the nation's top 15 with a 3.72 kills per game average. In addition, the senior has a conference-best 41 aces while adding a career-high 85 blocks and 1.31 digs per set average.
Hershko joins Loyola's Thomas Jaeschke, Penn State's Aaron Russell and Pepperdine's Josh Taylor as finalists for the inaugural Karch Kiraly Award, which is given to the nation's best outside attacker in NCAA Division I-II men's volleyball during the regular season.
Hershko was fifth in the MPSF and among the national leaders with a 3.58 kills per game average. The sophomore also was second on the Anteaters with a 1.32 digs per game average.
The voting committee for the awards was comprised of more than 30 college men's volleyball head coaches and volleyball reporters from around the nation.
The winner of the Karch Kiraly Award will be announced Tuesday, April 28, while the Brian Ivie Award will be announced Wednesday, April 29.
