Shuhei Shibahara, Sister Reach Mixed Doubles Championship

IRVINE, Calif. --- Junior Shuhei Shibahara has teamed up with his sister, Ena, to reach the Mixed Doubles Championship of the US Open National Playoffs.

Shuhei and Ena are the only brother-sister tandem in the field. Ena, a 16-year-old, is the youngest competitor in the finals, and competes in national junior events around the country. Her recent accomplishments have included reaching the round of 16 singles at the Easter Bowl and winning the doubles title at an ITF junior event in Claremont, Calif.

The pair is representing Northern California after wading through a 16-team bracket back in June. The duo took down each opponent in straight sets to earn a spot in the 12-team finals that will take place Aug. 20-23 at The Connecticut Tennis Center on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
