Incoming 'Eaters: Andrea Mensen
June 04, 2014 | Women's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- The 'Eaters increase their defensive depth with the addition of Andrea Mensen.
The Rancho Cucamonga-native has made a name on the soccer field and in the classroom. At Rancho Cucamonga High School, Mensen was a four-time all-league award winner including her freshman year when the program was named league champs. She claimed First Team All-CIF as a sophomore and junior.
In the classroom, Mensen was named a scholar-athlete, an AP Scholar, and even named to the Honor Guard as one of the top-40 juniors.
Club soccer was spent at Fram Soccer Club and Arsenal FC where she scored Surf Cup and Far West Regional championships in 2012. Most of her damage came with Cal South Olympic Developmental Program Girls '96 squad which was a two-time national and regional champion and also claimed a Region IV championship and third-place finish in Nationals with the youth team in 2013.
Head Coach Scott Juniper had strong words to add about Mensen saying, "Andrea is a player who could step into the backline of any program in the country and look comfortable. She is calm, composed, and intensely competitive. Since she committed to our program, she has continued to develop which underlines her determination to be a core member of our team."
Here is Andrea "Dressler" Mensen in the World BMX Championships:
Mensen will work into the mix with current defenders Haley O'Brien, Alana Sooy, and others to reestablish a backline devoid of graduating seniors Zoya Farzaneh, Big West Defender of the Year, and Jordan Bruce, a three-time Big West Player of the Week last season.
