Corvallis Regional Tournament Central
Box Score
CORVALLIS, Ore. --- The Corvallis Regional champion will be decided Monday night as UC Irvine and Oregon State will meet for the third time in three days following a 4-0 loss by the Anteaters Sunday at Goss Stadium. The game is scheduled to be televised on ESPNU and broadcast on KUCI 88.9 FM with the winner advancing to take on Oklahoma State in the Super Regionals.
UCI erupted for 24 runs in winning its first two games at the regional but the offense was quieted by Beaver starter, Scott Schultz, who pitched a complete-game shutout and held UCI to two hits to improve to 7-2 on the season.
Jerry McClanahan had a single in the third inning and Grant Palmer had a seventh-inning double for UCI's only hits.
Taylor Sparks and McClanahan were hit by the pitch in the first but were left stranded after Jonathan Munoz struck out looking to end the inning.
Michael Conforto gave the Beavers the lead in the bottom of the first, sending a 1-1 offering from starter
Evan Brock to the centerfield wall to drive in Andy Peterson from first. Conforto was forced at third on a fielder's choice but Kavin Kize extended the inning with a two-out single to right before Brock induced a fly-ball out to end the frame.
UCI was unable to capitalize on a hit batsman in the second and had its only scoring opportunity erased at home in the third after Chris Rabago was called out, trying to score from second on a single by McClanahan.
A leadoff double by Jeff Hendrix in the bottom of the third came back to hurt the Anteaters as Kavin Keyes laced a two-out single and was followed by Gabe Clark, who doubled in two runs to put the Beavers up 4-0.
After the third, Brock battled to pitch five scoreless innings and went the distance but fell to 8-6.
Schultz fanned four for OSU, which improved to 45-13 overall. The Beavers eliminated UNLV, 6-1, earlier Sunday.
Hendrix was 3 for 3 with a run scored while Keyes was 2 for 2 with a pair of walks, a run scored and an RBI.
