UCI Advances to Big West Final with 4-0 Win

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. --- The Anteaters scored its Division I-record 22nd win over fourth-seeded Hawai'I, 4-0, Saturday morning at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Seventy-seventh-ranked Franziska Goettsching and Kristina Smith locked up the doubles point with an 8-5 win for UC Irvine (22-3, 9-0) at No. 1 doubles.
Smith returned for a singles point along with Ali Facey who was also able to provide a doubles and singles win. Freshman Sarah Stadfelt scored the clinching singles point to send the 'Eaters to the final.
Hawai'I (6-15, 4-4) had leads in singles Nos. 2 and 3 with the match was cut short.
For UCI, it will take on rival Long Beach State in the final on Sunday, April 28th at 9:00 a.m. in Indian Wells for the NCAA automatic bid.
