
Top-Ranked UC Irvine Hosts International Double-Header Saturday

UC Irvine will host an International double-header Saturday (Dec. 28) at Crawford Court. The Anteaters will take on the University of British Columbia Okanagan at 2:00 p.m. and Red Deer College at 5:00 p.m.
UBC Okanagan, who is currently 2-10 overall, is a member of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association.
Nate Speijer leads the team with a 5.25 kill average.
The Columbia River flows from Okanagan Lake.
Red Deer leads the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference with an 8-0 record. The Kings have yet to drop one set in eight matches and have kept their opponents under twenty points in 13 of their 24 sets.
The Kings' Chris Osborn leads the league with .68 services aces-per-set.
Top-ranked UCI opened the season with a 3-0 victory over Concordia.
Junior Zack La Cavera led all players and tied his career-high with 19 kills against the Eagles.
Senior outside hitter Jeremy Dejno totaled nine kills, while junior outside hitter Travis Woloson and middle blocker Scott Kevorken each added eight kills. The eight kills was a career-high for Woloson.
Freshman Michael Saeta handled the setting duties and recorded 43 set assists, three digs and two block assists.
The Anteaters hit .466 (51-10-88) as a team, while the Eagles hit just .176 (26-13-74). UCI out-blocked Concordia 7.5-3.
Looking ahead, UCI starts the new year with a tough Midwest swing beginning on New Year's Day at Lewis. The Anteaters then head to Loyola, the site of the 2014 NCAA Championship, on Jan. 2 and Ball State on Jan. 3.
The Anteaters first home match is Jan. 17 when they host BYU in a rematch of the 2013 National Championship.
