Anteaters Look to Saturday's Finals at Big West Championships

IRVINE, Calif. --- Senior Amber Middleton qualified for Saturday's finals in both hurdles events at the Big West Conference Track & Field Championships at Anteater Stadium.
She had a time of 13.84 in the 100-meter hurdles and 59.28 in the 400-meter hurdles in Friday's prelims to move on to the finals.
Junior teammate Ericka Nowell recorded the top-qualifying time in the 400 hurdles at 59.14 while Kelly Collins (61.51) and KayC Wharton (62.54) give UCI four of the eight competitors in Saturday's final.
Samia Sailinuu moves on to Saturday's final in the 1500 meters with a qualifying time of 4:35.09 Friday.
Sophomore Lacey Surak earned five team points for UCI with a fourth-place finish of 128-9 in the javelin throw, just missing her season best of 128-11. Surak finished 10th with 4,438 in the Big West Heptathlon last weekend in her first competition in that event.
Saturday's final day of competition has field events starting at 9:00 a.m. with the first event on the track at 2:00 p.m.
