UC Irvine Finishes Second in Big West Tourney

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. --- UCI was downed, 4-1, in the Big West Tournament Final to the top-seeded Long Beach State 49ers Sunday morning.
The Anteaters (16-8, 6-2) dropped the doubles point early to go down, 1-0. Byron/Holladay and the Facey sisters were the unfortunate victims.
Singles started off very ominous as LBSU took five of the six opening sets. Marivick Mamiit was the lone 'Eater to escape with a win. She would close it out in straight sets, but the 49ers scored three quick points to win the match and the title, 4-1.
UCI finishes the tournament in second place for the second consecutive year and the fourth time in the last five years. Courtney Byron dropped her final set as a senior. Her and Hannah Holladay dropped their doubles set as well. Stephanie Hammel did not finish her final set before the match ended.
UCI goes out at 16-8 overall.
