Anteaters Continue to Charge

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine continued its roll through the midseason with a 6-1 win over Colorado State Wednesday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
The final doubles point was a struggle, but the Facey sisters managed to claw their way back to clinch the doubles point, 8-6. Good thing too as Courtney Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Notre Dame Prep HS) and Hannah Holladay (La Jolla / La Jolla HS) were defeated in a tiebreaker.
Singles started off with a bang as Stephanie Hammel (Placentia / Valencia HS) and Kristina Smith (Laguna Niguel / Dana Hills HS) each won every game in their two sets to give UCI (10-5, 3-1) an early 3-0 lead.
Marivick Mamiit (Los Angeles / Williams & Mary) provided the clinching point in straight sets. UCI finished out the match with straight set wins from Byron and Franziska Goettsching (Heitershem, Germany / Faust Gymnasium).
UCI has now won seven of its last eight going into a pivotal match against San Diego. UCI was conspicuously left out of the rankings this week while San Diego moved into No. 72 in the nation. The match will start at 1:30 Fri. Mar. 16th at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
