CoCo Goodson: All-American and Beyond
December 09, 2011 | Women's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- Senior defender CoCo Goodson (Ramona / University of Texas) made a repeat appearance on the 2011 NSCAA/Continental Tire women's NCAA Division I All-American Team.
She was joined by Tanya Taylor on the team last year as UC Irvine's first two women's soccer players to claim the prestigious honor, and now Goodson returns to the team as UCI's first two-time recipient. She joins a long, storied list of All-Americans at UC Irvine and is the 112th Anteater to be named an All-American twice.
Goodson is one of 49 players on the three teams with her showing up on the second team. She is also one of 18 players that are on the list for a second time.
Another notable achievement is Goodson is the lone representative of the Big West among the All-Americans in 2011. You can see the complete list here.
Goodson was a solid force on defense all year assisting UCI to eight shutouts this season while also providing an offensive spark with three goals and five assists.
Goodson joins Miguel Ibarra (Lancaster / Taft College) from the men's side who was also named an All-American. The duo is the first pair of men's and women's soccer players to earn All-American status in the same season.
UCI has joined the very elite in the college soccer world by having a player from both the men's and women's side present on the All-American team. UC Irvine is one of six schools to have at least one player on each, and one of four schools (UCLA, Louisville, and North Carolina) to have a player make the first or second team on both lists in addition to having both teams consistently in the top-25 of the RPI throughout the 2011 season.
In addition to the college accolades, Goodson has been featured as one of the top-10 prospects in the impending Women's Professional Soccer League draft coming in early January.
The 49 athletes will be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held in the Kansas City Convention Center's Grand Ballroom on Saturday, Jan. 14, in conjunction with the 2012 NSCAA Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
