THREE GAMES THIS WEEKEND: Seventh-ranked UC Irvine competes in the Convergence Tournament Saturday, facing Whittier College at 10:20 a.m. and Occidental College at 3:40 p.m. in games at Las Flores Park in La Verne.
Coach Marc Hunt's 'Eaters return to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action Sunday, hosting No. 3 UCLA at Anteater Pool at noon.
RECAPPING THE SOCAL TOURNAMENT: UCI went 2-2 and finished fifth in the SoCal Tournament at Long Beach State and the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos last weekend.
The 'Eaters opened with a 9-8 win over UC Davis, fell to USC, 11-5, topped Pepperdine, 15-12 in overtime, and lost to UC Santa Barbara, 9-6, in the fifth-place game.
Junior Nick Pfeil led UCI with 10 goals in the tournament, including a career-high six in the victory over Pepperdine.
UCI'S SCORING LEADERS: Sophomore Mitch Wise leads UCI in scoring with 41 goals and he ranks third in the MPSF at 2.56 goals per game.
Nick Pfeil follows with 29 goals, ranking 10th in the MPSF at 1.81 goals per game.
Senior Trent Baxter has scored 26 goals, senior Sam Figueroa and redshirt freshman Jacob Mourer have 16 apiece, senior Max Parrague and redshirt freshman Alan Robertson 15 each, junior Winston Newland 11 and redshirt freshman Kyle Kittlitz 10 to complete UCI's double-digit scorers.
IN GOAL: Redshirt freshman Michael Bailey has 64 saves and ranks first in the MPSF at 11.64 saves per game. Jimmy Friedrich has 76 saves and Alex Kazmier 39.
LOOKING AHEAD: UCI hosts Pepperdine in an MPSF contest Oct. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Anteater Pool.
