Senior Salute: Amanda Hardeman and Kala Gabler

These charismatic Anteaters reach out far behind the boundaries of the campus of UC Irvine.

#28 Amanda Hardeman, from Laguna Niguel, Calif., came to the program from Santiago Canyon College where she was an All-American. She played in 19 matches as a junior and has started every game for the Anteaters so far this season. Over her career, she has amassed 1 goal and 2 assists as an Anteater. Hardeman is a Psychology and Social Behavior major and, upon graduation, wants to travel the world.

"Amanda has been big time this season. She battled away in practice for the whole of last season without many opportunities to play, but is a shining example of what delayed gratification is all about.  She has started in every game for the team this year making the right back spot her own.  She says she wants to travel the world when she graduates and my only advice for her is to make sure she packs her boots!" - Head Coach Scott Juniper.

#1 Kala Gabler is a goalkeeper from Apple Valley, Calif. The Psychology and Social Behavior major transferred from Hope International University. In 2009, she played in 3 matches, made 2 starts, one of which was a shutout against Gonzaga. Off the pitch, Gabler was a UC Irvine Scholar Athlete in 2009 & 2010 as well as a Deans Honor Roll member in 2010 and 2011. She is very active in the community between Athletes in Action and her creation of a nonprofit organization called From Goals to Wells, which provides wells and clean water for people in Africa. Gabler is looking to obtain her Masters degree in Education upon graduating and go on to teach and coach.

"Kala Gabler is a wonderful young lady who has impacted every inch of our soccer program. Whether she is busting her tail at practice, tutoring her teammates, connecting with kids in the community, or making friends across campus with her outreach projects, Kala is a top class ambassador.  The life of a goalkeeper is a unique one and she continues to embrace the challenges that come with that every single day.  I am excited to see her next steps in life." - Head Coach Scott Juniper.
