Opposites Attract for 'Eaters' Players of the Week
October 24, 2011 | Women's Soccer
IRVINE, Calif. --- The duo of Natalia Ledezma (La Mirada / UCLA) and Sarah Devine (San Diego / Poway HS) had one thing in common this week: they each were named Big West Players of the Week.
The differences between the two are stark in comparison.
Ledezma is a 5'2" forward. Devine is a 5'9" defender.
Ledezma is a sophomore in her first year with the 'Eaters. Devine is in her fourth season at UCI.
Ledezma wears number three and just scored three goals against Cal State Northridge to win Big West Offensive Player of the Week award number three on the year.
Devine has not allowed a goal for the fourth time in the last five matches while also earning an assist for the second straight week to win her first Big West Defensive Player of the Week award of the year.
Either way you slice it, the two have cemented UC Irvine's status in the Big West as they have now taken over first place.
For Ledezma, it is her second straight week that she has earned player of the week honors, third of the year. Devine earned her first ever player of the week award. The two are also the second pair of Anteaters to sweep a week of awards. Lexi Kopf (Sonora / Sonora HS) and Jennifer Randazzo (San Jose / Presentation HS) each won in the season's opening week.
This marks the seventh and eight awards for UCI on the year and the third straight week an 'Eater has received one.
Ledezma, Devine, and all the Anteaters play one final regular season match, Sun. Oct. 30 at 2:00 p.m., at home against UC Riverside before the conference tournament commences.
