Senior Salute: Alexa Weigand and Alexis Rafael
October 24, 2011 | Women's Soccer
Alexa and Alexis have more similarities than just their name, they've exemplified the character and spirit of being a UC Irvine Anteater.
#29 Alexa Weigand is a midfield transfer from Pasadena City College. Her career at UCI has been hampered by a myriad of injuries. However, she has excelled by leaps and bounds off the field majoring in English with a minor in management. Weigand has made the Deans Honor List in all quarters and been named a Scholar-Athlete in 2010. Upon graduation, she will attend Graduate School for Masters in Education, and looks to teach Kindergarten in the future.
"Alexa was a player we had watched carefully in club soccer and at our summer camps. It didn't work out for her to come here straight from High School but I was very excited when we had the chance to bring her in from Pasadena City College. Alexa is a classy soccer player who is very elegant on the ball. She will be a fantastic teacher and we wish her every success." - Head Coach Scott Juniper.
#17 Alexis Rafael hails from Stockton, Calif. and is a Cognitive Psychology major. She has played in 33 games for the Anteaters starting in one of them totaling five goals and one assist. In the 2010 season, Rafael scored four goals, two of which were game-winners against Idaho and UCSB and the other two game in the same match as part of a 4-2 victory over Nevada. Upon graduating, Rafael will also attend Graduate school for Masters in Psychology.
"Alexis Rafael is a player who has shown flashes of brilliance throughout her career here at UC Irvine. She has battled back from several injuries and has never been able to string a run of games together being fully healthy. Who knows what kind of an impact she could have had in this conference had she had that kind of run but college soccer throws up many more challenges than the ones we see on the field. I will remember the two game winning goals last season as special moments for her on the field and I know she will go on to be very successful in her chosen field." - Head Coach Scott Juniper.
