
'Eaters Top Pepperdine, 15-12, in OT at SoCal Tournament

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. --- UC Irvine capitalized on a big second half to rally for a 15-12, overtime victory over Pepperdine in the SoCal Tournament Sunday morning at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos.
Nick Pfeil scored a career-high six goals and Sam Figueroa notched a hat trick in the third quarter as the seventh-ranked 'Eaters (10-5) rallied from an 8-4 halftime deficit.
After the No. 5 Waves held a 9-5 lead midway through the third quarter, Figueroa scored a trio of goals in a span of 2:21 and Winston Newland added a score with one second left in the quarter to pull UCI within 10-9 entering the fourth period.
A goal by Mitch Wise lifted the 'Eaters into a 10-10 tie with 7:06 remaining in regulation.
Pfeil scored on a power-play opportunity with 4:43 left in the fourth for a 12-11 UCI lead before Pepperdine's Andrew Milcovich tied the contest on an extra-man goal with 4:18 remaining.
In the first three-minute extra session, goals by Pfeil at the 2:32 mark, Alan Robertson (1:12) and another from Pfeil (:24) completed the scoring as neither team scored in the second overtime period.
Robertson also scored three goals for UCI, which advances to the fifth-place game at 3:10 p.m. today at the Joint Forces Training Base.
