The No. 22 Anteaters (9-3-2, 2-1-1) go on the road to face the Titans of Cal State Fullerton before a primetime Black-and-Blue rivalry game for conference supremacy.
HOME SLICE: 1,456 fans enjoyed a pair of wins this weekend at Anteater Stadium. The UCI women are averaging 937 fans per game this season which leads the Big West. This includes 1,109 for the season-opener and a women's soccer record 1,611 against WCC power Portland. The team has two more regular season home matches remaining.
PRIVETT PARTY: Freshman Cami Privett (Bakersfield / Frontier HS) continues to up her performance. She had a three-point weekend that included a game-winning goal and a game-winning assist. With 10 points this season, she becomes the fifth freshman since 2000 with 10+ points joining current 'Eaters Dana Sanderlin (Upland / Upland HS), Devon Delarosa (San Diego / Rancho Bernardo HS), and Mar Rodriguez (Santa Ana / Santa Ana Valley HS).
BE-DAZZO-ED: Staying on the freshman topic, Jennifer Randazzo (San Jose / Presentation HS) has been a pleasant addition to the club this year. She has posted nine wins and four shutouts tying her for third most in each category among UCI freshmen. Her win percentage is currently the highest freshman percentage. Randazzo's save total keeps creeping up with 59 on the year.
CAL STATE FULLERTON TITANS: The Titans have had an up-and-down 2011 campaign. They have endured a four-match losing streak only to follow it with a four-match winning streak. Their schedule has included losses to ranked squads in Pepperdine (2-1) and BYU (2-1).
CSUF has been a frequent customer of overtime. Nine of its 14 matches have gone to overtime with a record of 3-4-2 in those matches. Four of its overtime matches have ended in the first overtime as part of its 6-6-2 record.
Its Big West slate has been full of overtime as well. In fact, all three matches have gone to overtime. Losses to Cal Poly (2-1) and LBSU (2-1) sandwiched a 2-1 victory over UCSB.
Ann Marie Tangorra has been the offensive force leading the team in goals (5), assists (4), and points (14). Four other Titans have three goals each. Rebecca Wilson is one of those players and has also added three assists.
Lindsay Maricic has played every minute matching Randazzo with 59 saves.
LONG BEACH STATE 49ERS: The 49ers have built up an impressive resume on the year. Their 10-3-1 record started with a win at a ranked USC squad (2-1) and losses to powers Milwaukee (3-2) and Marquette (2-1).
They have won six straight outscoring opponents 21-3 in that time. A couple of close calls against UCSB and CSUF along with a 6-0 stomping of Cal Poly have them at the top of the Big West at 3-0-0.
Nadia Link has been all-world for the 49ers with 12 goals (four game-winners), eight assists, and 32 points leading the Big West in two of three. Teammate Shawna Gordon has nine along with seven goals that matches Gordon with teammate Nicole Hubbard.
HOW WE MATCHUP: Besides the untimely loss in last year's Big West Championship, UCI has fared well against LBSU. UCI won 1-0 at Long Beach last season to go to 9-5-3 all-time against them. At Anteater Stadium, UCI is 6-1-1 losing its only match in the BWC Championship.
Cal State Fullerton has had more success going 5-10-3. They are nearly identical at home and on the road. UCI's win last year was their first over CSUF since 2000.
