Four UC Irvine Teams Record Perfect APR Scores in Latest NCAA Report
May 05, 2026 | General
IRVINE, Calif. - The NCAA has released its latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) and once again all of UC Irvine's athletic programs easily surpassed the minimum multi-year requirement.
Each of the Anteaters' 18 sports featured in the annual report (represented by 17 scores with women's indoor and outdoor track & field counting as one) had multi-year scores of 968 or better. Ten teams were also at or above the national average of 986.
UCI had four programs record a perfect score of 1,000 - men's cross country, women's golf, men's tennis, and women's tennis. Men's basketball, women's cross country, women's track & field, and women's volleyball were also above 990, while women's basketball, men's soccer, men's track & field, men's water polo, and women's water polo were at or above 980.
Men's Basketball, men's cross country, women's golf, men's tennis, and women's tennis received the APR Public Recognition Award for ranking in the top 10% in their sport for the multi-year rate.
The current four-year APR scores reflect rates from the 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25 academic years. The APR creates a real-time look at a team's academic success by tracking the progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. It accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Each academic year, every Division I sports team's APR is calculated using a simple and consistent formula. Scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for staying on course for a degree in their chosen major and one point for being retained (or graduating) at the end of each academic term. A team's total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000.
