CORVALLIS, Ore. – UC Irvine ended in a tie for third place at the Molly Collegiate Invitational Tuesday at the Trysting Tree Golf Club.
The Anteaters had the lowest round of the day with a score of 293 and finished with a 54-total of 887 (296-298-293) in a tie with California and Long Beach State. Host Oregon State won the title with a score of 878 (290-289-299).
Sophomore
Katelyn Kong led the Anteaters with a fourth place finish, recording a two-day score of 218 (73-72-73). Kong was second in Par 4 scoring, shooting even par (4.00).
Katherine Gerbing fired a team-best 70 on the final round and moved up 16 spots to a tie for 10
th place with a score of 221 (77-74-70). The sophomore logged six birdies Tuesday, recording five on the front nine. She led all players on Par 3 scoring with a -1 (2.92).
Sophomore
Alona Avery was tied for 18
th with a score of 224 (74-74-76). She was one of six players to record an eagle.
Sophomore
Apple Zheng finished in a tie for 42
nd place with a 54-hole score of 235 (81-74-76), while graduate student
Jenny Chang was 48
th with a two-round score of 146. Zheng was tied for fourth among tournament participants on Par 5s with a -5 Â under (4.58).
Freshman
Chelsie Chin had a successful collegiate debut, placing in a tie for 27
th position with a score of 227 (74-77-76). She recorded five birdies over the three rounds.
UCI heads to the Marilyn Smith Invitational at the Lawrence Country Club in Lawrence, Kansas next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 6-7).
