UC Irvine Heads To Molly Collegiate Invitational

OFF THE TEE

The UC Irvine women's golf team will compete at the Molly Collegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 29-30) at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore.

The tournament field includes host Oregon State as well as Boise State, California, Long Beach State, Nevada, San Diego State, and individuals from Oregon.

Trysting Tree will play at par-72 and 6,401-yards.

UC Irvine's lineup features Jenny Chang, Katelyn Kong, Alona Avery, Katherine Gerbing and Apple Zheng. Freshman Chelsie Chin will see her first collegiate action, playing as an individual.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament includes 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. Each day begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

IN THE CLUBHOUSE
UC Irvine started the season with a seventh place tie at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic held at the Red Sky Ranch and Golf Course.

The Anteaters shot a three-round total of 878 (291-297-290).

Graduate student Jenny Chang had a career-best 69 on the second round to led the Anteaters with a score of 217 (73-69-75), She ended tied for 25th overall after carding a team-best 10 birdies.

Sophomores Katelyn Kong (72-74-72) and Alona Avery (71-76-71) followed one shot back with a score of 218 and were tied for 28th.

Avery was second among the tournament field with 41 pars, while Kong and Chang followed with 35 each.
