Anteaters Attack Overwhelms North Florida, 3-0

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer led a second-half surge against visitors North Florida for a 3-0 victory Sunday afternoon in Anteater Stadium.

Attack Minded
  • A pair of veteran programs battled it out looking to set the tone. Each side had a prime chance in the early minutes
  • North Florida had a pair of shots miss the mark, and the 'Eaters responded with a solid run finished by Agaton Pourshahidi redirecting a firm chance right to the keeper's hands in the ninth minute
  • The Ospreys answered in the 14th whipping a chance on goal from outside the box that found Joe O'Shaughnessy in the mitts
  • The breakthrough came in the 29th minute with UCI earning the goal
    • Hunny Yoo hunted out a turnover in UNF's defensive third and fed a central pass to Isaiahs Gutierrez. His run toward the box finished with a shot from distance that found the far post and settled in the back of the net to lead, 1-0
Taking It To 'Em
  • The second half began with a heavy attack presence from the Anteaters with three shots within the first five minutes. All missed just barely with Braden Ferreira firing into the keeper's mitts
  • The pressure would create a second goal in the 59th minute. Hunny Yoo was on the run and beat the defense to the ball before being taken down in the box to earn the penalty. Misael Gonzalez Lopez put it home to make it 2-0 Anteaters
  • UC Irvine followed that up with another strike in the 68th minute. Marcus Lee made a move up left wing and give it a go with shot deflected right to Travis Babineau on the doorstep putting away a no-doubter to increase the lead to 3-0
UC Irvine 3, North Florida 0
  • The win puts UCI 3-0 through three matches. Joe O'Shaughnessy is responsible for all three of those wins and all three shutouts. He picked up four saves on the afternoon with three coming in the final 15 minutes
  • Gutierrez's goal was his second as an Anteater and first game-winner of his college career
  • Gonzalez Lopez buried the penalty giving him three goals in his last two matches and atop the team point totals with six
  • Babineau finished off the scoring with his first as an Anteater and first point of 2025
  • Yoo was instrumental in each of the first two goals recording the assist on the winner, his first Division I point, and drew the foul leading to the penalty kick. Marcus Lee earned an assist on the third goal, his first point of 2025 and first career assist
UCI's homestand rolls on for a Friday matchup against New Hampshire, September 5, with kickoff at 6:00 p.m.
