Anteaters Open Season with Two Event Wins

LONG BEACH, Calif. – UC Irvine finished first and second in the men's javelin at the Beach Opener Friday at Jack Rose Track.
 
Senior Liam Miksic won the event with a toss of 67.09 meters (220-1) on his third attempt of the day. Miksic went for over 200 feet on all six of his throws. Senior Logan Peyton was the runner-up at 61.60m (202-1).
 
Miksic is the two-time defending Big West champion, while he and Peyton both advanced to the NCAA West First Round in the javelin last year.
 
The Anteaters return to Long Beach tomorrow for the second day of the Beach Opener.
 
 
FULLERTON, Calif. – UC Irvine men's track & field had four student-athletes compete in the Ben Brown Invitational and Astro AI Distance Classic Friday at Titan Track Stadium.
 
Freshman Angel Cordero highlighted the evening distance events with an individual victory in the 800m. Cordero's winning time of 1:52.18 topped the field of 45 by over a second.  
 
Sophomore Juan Chantaca also notched a personal-record 14:21.62 in the 5000m. He placed 15th out of 100 runners. Senior Juan Sanchez was 53rd at 14:58.42.
 
Freshman Luke Stuckey opened the meet in the hammer throw where he sixth with a toss of 48.55 meters (159-3).

The 'Eaters return to Fullerton on Saturday, March 8, for the second day of the Ben Brown Invitational.
