California Irvine Athletics

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's track & field team will have nine newcomers in 2025-26. The incoming class brings a wide array of experience with NCAA Division I transfers, junior college transfers, and highly-touted high school recruits. The group will add depth across all event areas.


Ziyad Abdallah | Freshman | Distance | Trabuco Hills HS
Ziyad Abdallah was a three-sport athlete at Trabuco Hills High School, competing in soccer, cross country, and track & field. In cross country, Abdallah was a two-time CIF State Championship qualifier. As a senior, he finished eighth at the state meet in a 5K personal-record 15:19.4. On the track, Abdallah placed fifth in the 3200m at the 2025 CIF-Southern Section Division I Finals. He also posted a top-four league finish in both the 1600m (4th) and 3200m (3rd).

Brendan Clark | Junior | Sprints & Javelin | Orange Coast College | Mater Dei HS
Brendan Clark was a two-year member of the track & field team at Orange Coast College. As a sophomore, he had impressive showings in the 400m (4th), javelin (5th), and 4x400 relay (6th) at the 3C2A State Championships. He also placed first in the 400m and second in the javelin at the Orange Empire Conference Championships, while helping the Pirates' 4x100 and 4x400 relays to top-three performances. Clark graduated from Mater Dei High School where he lettered in baseball.

Griffin Cole | Freshman | Javelin | St. George's School
Griffin Cole graduated from St. George's School in Vancouver, where he competed primarily in the javelin. In 2025, Cole claimed runner-up honors at the British Columbia High School Track & Field Championships with a throw of 58.49 meters (191-10). As a member of the Thunderbirds Track Club, Cole won the U18 men's javelin with a personal-record 62.05m (203-7) at the 2024 Canadian Youth Legion Championships.

Colin Green | Freshman | Jumps | Great Oak HS
Colin Green competed in the long jump and triple jump at Greak Oak High School. Green placed first in the triple jump at the 2025 Southwestern League Championships. He went on to finish third with a personal-record 14.57 meters (47-10) at the CIF-Southern Section Finals, and came in eighth at the CIF State Championships.

Logan Lyght | Junior | Hurdles | University of Houston | Mater Dei HS
Logan Lyght was a two-year member of the track & field team at the University of Houston. Lyght competed in the 110m hurdles at the 2024 Big 12 Outdoor Championships and in the 60m hurdles at the 2024 Big 12 Indoor Championships. He established personal records in the 110H (14.02 – wind legal) and 400H (53.06) during his time with the Cougars.
 
Lyght prepped at Mater Dei High School. As a senior, he was the runner-up in the 110m hurdles at the 2023 CIF State Track & Field Championships. He was also a two-time Trinity League and CIF-Southern Section Division 2 champion in the 110H. At the 2022 CIF-SS meet, Lyght ran a wind-aided personal-record 13.94.

Caden Matsumoto | Freshman | Jumps | West Torrance HS
Caden Matsumoto competed in the long jump and triple jump at West Torrance High School. As a senior, Matsumoto was the Pioneer League champion and a CIF-Southern Section qualifier in the long jump. He also won the event at the Redondo Nike Track Festival with a personal-record 7.15 meters (23-5.75).

Mark McAleenan | Freshman | Distance | Clovis East HS
Mark McAleenan lettered in cross country and track at Clovis East High School. In cross country, he was a two-time CIF State Championship qualifier. He also placed among the top-10 at the Tri-River Athletic Conference Championships as a junior and senior, while taking sixth at the 2024 CIF Central Section Championships. On the track, McAleenan had a top-three showing in the 1600m at the 2025 TRAC Finals and was a member of the Timberwolves' 4x800 relay that claimed runner-up honors at the CIF Central Section meet.

Duke Pascoe | Sophomore | Throws | Louisiana Tech | Central East HS
Duke Pascoe competed in the hammer throw at Louisiana Tech in 2025. Pascoe finished third at the Maroon and White Tune-up with a personal-record 56.95 meters (186-10). That mark ranked ninth in school history. He also competed at the 2025 CUSA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Pascoe prepped at Central East High School in Fresno. As a senior, he finished fourth in the shot put at the CIF State Track & Field Championships. Pascoe was also a member of the Grizzlies' football team.

Javin Schmitt | Freshman | Distance | Saint Mary's College HS
Javin Schmitt graduated from Saint Mary's College High School where he was a member of both the cross country and track & field teams. In cross country, Schmitt was a two-time CIF State Championship qualifier with a high finish of 16th in 2024. He was also the Tri City Athletic League runner-up as a senior. On the track, Schmitt was the 2025 league champion in the 800m, 1600m, and 4x800 relay. He went on to place fourth in the 1600m at the CIF North Coast Section Meet of Champions.
