FIRST SERVE
No. 5 UC Irvine travels to Fairfax, VA this week for a pair of matches. The Anteaters square off against Daemen, a member of the Northeast Conference, Friday (Mar. 21) at 3:00 p.m. PT before taking on host George Mason Saturday (Mar. 22) at 2:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Recreation Athletic Complex.
STORYLINES
No. 5 UC Irvine has been idle since playing Sacred Heart on Mar. 8.
The Anteaters are 12-4 overall, winning the last two outings.
UCI swept then-No. 8 Pepperdine before beating Sacred heart, 3-0 at the Bren Center.
The Anteaters out-blocked the two opponents 19-6.5, out-aced 18-5 and held a .379-.089 hitting percentage.
Hilir Henno was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week following the two matches after averaging 4.17 kills, 5.25 points, 1.00 digs, and 0.83 service aces. It was his third Offensive honor of the season and 10th of his career. Henno has claimed 15 Big West weekly honors all-time.
Freshman middle blocker Micah Goss has not committed an attack error over the last four matches, going 21-0-29 for a .724 attack mark.
UC Irvine is 4-3 on the road and 3-0 on neutral courts in 2025.
Daemen has also not played since Mar. 8 and will take on George Mason Friday before playing the Anteaters.
Daemen is 9-4 overall entering the week.
Daemen saw its five-match winning streak come to a end with a 3-1 loss at Merrimack College the last time out.
George Mason is 11-6 overall and is receiving votes in the national poll.
The Patriots are 9-1 at home this season, falling only to CSUN, 3-1 on Feb. 2.
George Mason has won the last three matches entering the week, taking down NJIT (3-1) and Merrimack (3-0) last week.
The Patriots upended UCI 3-2 in the season opener last year in Irvine.
