LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC Irvine women's tennis closed out the Big West Fall Selection Event with three doubles wins Saturday at UC San Diego.
 
Haily Huynh and Carolyna Fowler teamed up for their first victory of the young season. The Anteater duo took down Daisy Carpenter/Paulina Franco Martinessi of Long Beach State, 6-4.
 
Yen Nhi Huynh and Maily Huynh evened their record at 2-2 for the weekend with a 7-5 triumph over LBSU's Johanna Hiesmair/Daria Malaescu. Mackenzie Lukin and Bella Pitchford also improved to 2-0 with an impressive 6-4 win against Allaire Berl/Emma Forgac of Hawai'i.
 
Four 'Eaters pushed their opponent to a super tiebreaker in singles. Allaire Berl (UH) edged Yen Nhi Huynh in a match that went down to the wire (7-5, 4-6, 13-11). Kara Chen put up a fight against Cal State Fullerton's Dana Kunza, but ultimately dropped a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 decision. Carolyna Fowler (3-6, 6-3, 10-5) and Bella Pitchford (7-5, 4-6, 10-8) also fell in three.
 
UC Irvine will be back in action at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in San Diego, Oct. 16-19.
