UC Irvine Starts Strong at Silver & Blue Invitational

RENO, Nev. – The UC Irvine women's track & field team opened the 2025 indoor season Friday at the Silver & Blue Invitational hosted by Nevada.
 
Junior DeAna Davis kicked off the two-day meet at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center with a personal-record 15.71 meters (51-6.5) in the weight throw. Davis improved her No. 7 mark in program history and placed second in the competition.
 
Senior Reyna Johnson led a trio of Anteaters in the long jump where she placed sixth out of 34 (5.89m/19-4).
 
On the track, Johnson was also one of three 'Eaters to establish personal bests in the 60m hurdle prelims. She had the second-fastest qualifying time at 8.52 seconds. Sophomore Kailah McKenzie was fifth at 8.64 and sophomore Sarah Ajayi was seventh (8.80). Johnson moved up one spot to No. 3 among UC Irvine's all-time leaders, while McKenzie is now sixth.
 
Johnson, Ajayi and McKenzie took fourth, fifth and sixth in the 60H final. Ajayi bettered her PR, clocking in at 8.75 seconds to tie for ninth in school history.
 
Sophomore Halle Sutherland and junior Samantha Bartz added lifetime bests in the 60m dash. Sutherland notched a time of 7.53 seconds in the prelims to advance to the final where she finished seventh. Bartz came in at 7.64 seconds in the prelims. Sutherland and Bartz rank second and fifth, respectively, among UCI's all-time top-10.
 
The Anteaters return to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on Saturday, Jan. 11, for the final day of the Silver & Blue Invitational.
