RENO, Nev. – UC Irvine women's indoor track & field broke three school records and won their first conference title in the pentathlon at the MPSF Championships Sunday at Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
Freshman
Joy Anderson became the first MPSF pentathlon champion in program history as she set season bests in all five events to claim the individual title with 4,069 points. Anderson started the day with a time of 8.64 to claim runner-up honors in the 60m hurdles. She then won the high jump with a clearance of 1.75 meters (5-8.75). Anderson followed with a big improvement in the shot put where she hit 11.37m (37-3.75) on her third and final attempt. The Lakewood, California, native also bettered her season best in the long jump by over a foot at 5.57m (18-3.25). She closed out the competition by leading the pack in her first 800m race of the year at 2:19.73. Anderson now ranks second in school history in the pentathlon, is tied for third in the high jump, tied for seventh in the 60H, and sits eighth in the long jump.
Senior
Jolie Robinson was the runner-up in the pentathlon, marking her third-straight MPSF podium finish. Robinson established a personal-record 3,961 points to rank third in program history. She ran a 60H lifetime-best 8.79, before matching her PR in the high jump at 1.63m (5-4.25). Robinson followed with the top mark of the competition in both the shot put (12.17m/39-11.25) and long jump (6.00m/19-8.25). Her distance in the long jump was a season best and just shy of her school-record 6.04m (19-9.75) that she set at the conference meet last year.
Senior
Jazzmine Davis added a career-best MPSF Championship finish in the pentathlon as she came in fourth. Davis started the day by winning the 60m hurdles in 8.57 seconds. She went on to set personal bests in the shot put (11.36m/37-3.25), long jump (5.77m/18-11.25), and 800m (2:27.58). Her long jump mark ranks fourth in program history, while her PR 3,757 points is sixth among UCI's all-time pentathlon leaders.
Davis also led the 'Eaters in the 60m hurdle prelims where she ran a school-record 8.39. That time was the fastest of the day and earned her an automatic qualifier into tomorrow's final. Behind Davis, junior
Kailah McKenzie (8.64), Anderson (8.67), and junior
Sarah Ajayi (8.76) secured three of the four time qualifiers for the 60H final. McKenzie matched her PR which ranks seventh in school history, while Ajayi clocked a season best.
Junior
Halle Sutherland broke her own school record to finish second in the 200m. Sutherland crossed the line in 23.97, which was .07 seconds behind the leader. She topped her previous best of 24.12, which she ran at the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno on Feb. 6. Senior
Samantha Bartz also notched a personal-best 24.11 to place fourth overall and rank second in program history.
Sutherland and Bartz both received an automatic qualifier into Monday's 60m final. In the prelims, Sutherland won Heat 3 in a personal-record 7.46 seconds, while Bartz took the top spot in Heat 1 at 7.47. Sutherland's time was a lifetime-best that is third among UCI's all-time leaders.

Senior
Zharia Taylor had a podium finish in the high jump, clearing 1.74m (5-8.5) to come in third. McKenzie recorded the same height but placed fourth based on attempts. Senior
Esmeray Demirbas matched her season-best at 1.59m (5-6.5) for a sixth-place showing.
McKenzie also took third in the long jump with a season-best 5.89m (19-4), while Robinson scored in seventh (5.68m/18-7.75).

Jessie Condliff and junior
Alana Sugue both cleared a personal-record 3.88m (12-8.75) to tie for second on the Anteater's top-10 list. Based on attempts, Condliff finished third in the competition, while Sugue was fifth.
Sophomores
Liana Lee (17:20.20) and
Anna Soares (17:53.81) both ran their first career indoor 5000m race. Their altitude-adjusted times are third and fourth, respectively, in school history.
The Anteaters (75.5) hold a 36.5-point lead through eight of 17 scored events. They will close out action at the MPSF Championships Monday starting at 9 a.m.
