Harashima and Zhao Named to All-Big West Team

IRVINE, Calif. - Sophomore Rei Harashima and senior Darien Zhao have been named to the 2024 All-Big West Men's Golf Team the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
 
Harashima was a second-team selection, while Zhao earned honorable mention recognition.
 
Harashima ranked third on the squad with a 73.00 scoring average. He closed out the campaign with a third-place finish at the Big West Championships, firing a 9-under 207 (68-68-71). Earlier in the year at the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic, the Chula Vista, California, native carded three-straight sub-70 scores to tie for third with a 54-hole total of 6-under 204 (67-68-69). In addition, Harashima tied for 25th in an elite field at the Western Intercollegiate where he registered a season-best 65 in the second round. Overall, he came in at or below par in 14 rounds with six scores in the 60s. This is the second career All-Big West award for Harashima who received an honorable mention nod last year.
 
Zhao led the team with a 72.07 average and four top-20 finishes. At the season-opening Nick Watney Invitational, he claimed runner-up honors with a career-best 13-under 200. Zhao started the tournament with a 65 (-5) before carding a school-record 62 (-9) in the second round. He fired 14 birdies and one eagle against only two bogeys for a program-best 36-hole total of 128 (-14). The San Diego native also came in at 10-under 206 (68-71-67) at the Kapolei Invitational, while he tied for 15th at the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate Classic and at the Big West Championships. Overall, he had 12 rounds at or below par with eight sub-70 scores. This is Zhao's third career All-Big West award.
