LA JOLLA, Calif. - Justin Willingham broke the shot put school record for the third time this season to lead the UC Irvine men's track & field team Saturday at the Triton Invitational.

Willingham opened the competition with a big toss of 18.43 meters (60-5.75). He then saw an improvement on his third attempt with his record-breaking throw of 18.68m (61-3.5). Willingham again led wire-to-wire in his third victory of the year. He has placed among the top-two in each of his six shot put competitions. Willingham also registered a lifetime-best 54.87m (180-0) in the discus, which ranks seventh in program history.

Jacob Hawkins was the runner-up in the shot put at 17.74m (58-2.5), and placed 10th in the elite section of the discus with a best of 55.47m (182-0).

Alan Vuong matched his season best with a clearance of 2.01m (6-7) to take third in the high jump, while
Garren Haynes was fifth out of 35 in the long jump (7.18m/23-6.75).

On the track,
Roman Mendoza clocked a personal-record 53.48 to come in second in the 400m hurdles.

Jarel Sayles added a fifth-place performance in the 110m hurdles (14.51).
Max Daniels also notched a season-best 15.01 to place among the top-10.

Alex Skalmowski was 11th in a 100m field of 56 runners, crossing the finish line in 10.80 seconds.

Bryce Bushnell led five 'Eaters in the 200m, coming in 11th out of 81 (21.79).
Brandon Burns added season-bests in both the 100m (10.93w) and 200m (22.29).

UC Irvine has multiple meets next week with the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 11-13), Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 11), Beach Invitational (April 12-13) and Leopard Distance Carnival (April 12).
