'Eaters Net Seven Event Wins at Vince O'Boyle Classic

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team picked up seven event wins at the Vince O'Boyle Classic Friday at Anteater Stadium.
 
Reyna Johnson came from behind to claim the long jump title with a personal-record 6.14 meters (20-1.75). At the conclusion of Flight 2, she was ninth overall with a best of 5.36m (17-7). After fouling in the first round of the finals, she notched her PR to move into first place and improve on her No. 3 mark in program history.
 
Kailah McKenzie was the runner-up, registering a lifetime-best 6.00m (19-8.25), which ranks fourth on UCI's all-time charts. Jolie Robinson was also third, matching her season best at 5.78m (18-11.75). Lauren Thai added a personal-record 5.43m (17-9.75), and Jazzmine Davis (5.38m/17-8) and Chaselyn Amos (5.27m/17-3.5) had season bests.
 
Deandra Tyler remained unbeaten in the shot put with her fifth victory of the season. She beat out the field with a meet-record 15.23 meters (49-11.75). Tyler was also the runner-up in the hammer at 53.74m (176-3), while DeAna Davis (52.75m/173-0) was third in a field of 20 athletes.
 
Alana Sugue won the pole vault, clearing a lifetime-best 3.72m (12-2.4). She moved up three spots to No. 4 in school history.
 
Laura Sangiacomo threw for a season-best 33.13m (108-8) to place second in the javelin.
 
On the track, Hallena Sutherland took first in the 100m in a personal-record 11.81 seconds. Her time ranks sixth in program history. Samantha Bartz (12.11) and Faith McLeary (12.48) also clocked season bests.
 
Jazzmine Davis was the 100m hurdle champion at 13.78 seconds. Her season best is fifth among the Anteaters' all-time leaders. Johnson came in third with a season-best 14.07. McKenzie (14.60), Robinson (14.62) and Sarah Ajayi (14.68) also placed among the top-10.
 
Malia Gay took top honors in the 800m, crossing the finish line in a lifetime-best 2:09.00. She climbed three spots to No. 6 in program history. Alexis Alexander was the runner-up in a season-best 2:12.39. Kaia Schmidt (2:14.40) placed fourth overall, Anna Vogtmann was sixth with a season-best 2:15.43 and Reina Kabbara came in seventh with a personal-record 2:17.31.
 
Rebecca Bronstein raced out to an early lead in the 5000m, and won handily as she registered a personal-best 17:19.79.
 
Lauren Aquino was the runner-up in the 400m, crossing the finish line in a season-best 57.32.
 
Five 'Eaters posted a PR or season best in the 1500m. Makena Castillo was second in a season-best 4:42.95. Montgomery Allison's season-best 4:44.78 was good for fourth, while Tea Akiaten clocked a personal-record 4:47.53. Hana Nip added a season-best 4:47.77, and Stella Knobbe rounded out the group with a lifetime-best 4:54.32.

UCI closed out the meet in the 4x400 relay. Davis, Mia Marquez, Alexander and Aquino combined for a season-best 3:48.12 in a runner-up showing.
 
UC Irvine will be back in action next weekend, traveling to La Jolla for the Triton Invitational, April 5-6.
