LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's track & field team wrapped up the Beach Opener on a rainy Saturday at Jack Rose Track.

Senior
Deandra Tyler started the outdoor season the same way she finished indoors, with an individual victory in the shot put. Tyler claimed the title with a toss of 15.25 meters (50-0.5).

Sophomore
Nyla Baker secured runner-up honors with personal bests in both the shot put and discus. Her PR of 13.89m (45-7) in the shot put moved her up four spots to No. 6 on UCI's all-time charts. She also threw for 47.55m (156-0) in the discus to rank 10th in program history.
In the triple jump, sophomore
Jackie Acosta advanced to the final where she took ninth with a wind-aided 11.00m (36-1.25).

On the track, junior
Montgomery Allison won the steeplechase in 11:24.11, while classmate
Laura Yontz was second at 11:36.02.

In the 800m, sophomore
Makena Castillo clocked a personal-record 2:15.93 to place fourth overall, and third among collegiate athletes as she came in behind a pair of USC runners.

Junior
Olivia Liuson led four Anteaters in the 1500m with a seventh-place showing (4:50.81). Junior
Tea Akiaten was also 13th in a lifetime-best 4:56.90. Freshman
Rebecca Bronstein added an eighth-place performance in the 3000m (10:23.15).

Journee Harvey established a personal-best 15.05 to come in eighth in the 100m hurdles.
