IRVINE, Calif. -Â UC Irvine women's track & field has four heptathletes entered in the Bryan Clay Multis, April 9-10, at Azusa Pacific. The rest of the Anteaters will make their way to Fullerton for the Challenge Cup on Friday, April 10.
MULTIS DEBUT
Jolie Robinson,
Zharia Taylor,
Joy Anderson, and
Jazzmine Davis will compete in their first heptathlon of the season. Robinson, who won the Big West heptathlon title in 2023 and 2024, claimed runner-up honors last year, while senior
Jazzmine Davis finished fifth at the 2025 conference meet. They both set personal bests that rank among the top-three in program history. Anderson and Taylor are entered in the first heptathlon of their Anteater careers. Anderson was the MPSF pentathlon champion during the 2026 indoor season.
LAST TIME OUT
Kaia Schmidt led UC Irvine with a school and stadium record in the steeplechase last Friday at the Triton Invitational. Schmidt won her second steeple race of the year in a 17-second personal-best 10:16.88. The Anteaters produced four more top-10 marks Saturday in La Jolla.
Jazzmine Davis,
Halle Sutherland,
Samantha Bartz, and
Catalina Teran finished first in the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.82, which ranks second in program history.
Alana Sugue cleared a lifetime-best 4.01 meters (13-1.75) to move up one spot to No. 2 among UCI's pole vault leaders.
Ihe Okoh also established a personal-record 54.86 in the 400m to rank fourth on UC Irvine's all-time charts.
Joy Anderson rounded out the quartet in the high jump where she reached 1.73m (5-8) to tie for sixth in school history.
BIG WEST RECOGNITION
Kaia Schmidt was named the Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week on April 7 following her record-breaking performance at the Triton Invitational. Schmidt picked up her second individual victory in the steeplechase with a 17-second personal-best 10:16.88. Her PR topped UCI's previous standard of 10:20.11, which was established by Hannah Chau in 2023. Schmidt also broke an 18-year-old Triton Track & Field Stadium record of 10:19.67. Her time ranks first in the Big West by 16 seconds, 17th in the West Region, and 26th in all of NCAA Division I this season.
DISTANCE DUO
Kaia Schmidt and
Emma Hadley led UC Irvine's distance crew through the cross country and indoor track & field seasons, and they have continued to do the same during the outdoor campaign. Schmidt set a personal best in both of her steeplechase victories this year, most recently running a school-record 10:16.88 at the Triton Invitational. In her outdoor season debut at the Aztec Coastal Classic (March 13), Hadley was the individual champion in the 1500m with a lifetime-best 4:22.34 that puts her at No. 6 on UCI's all-time charts. At the Vince O'Boyle Classic, Hadley (2:07.73) and Schmidt (2:09.14) both clocked PRs in the 800m to rank sixth and 10th, respectively, in school history.Â
SPRINTING TO THE TOP
UC Irvine's sprinters have etched their names in the record books with six individual top-10 marks and a relay school record.
Aoife Hernon,
Catalina Teran,
Esmeray Demirbas, and
Mikah Longcob combined to run a program-best 3:40.83 in the 4x400 at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 13. Last weekend at the Triton Invitational,
Jazzmine Davis,
Halle Sutherland,
Samantha Bartz, and Teran clocked UCI's second-fastest 4x100 relay at 44.82. They were .31 seconds off the school record. Individually, Teran made a statement in her Anteater debut, running UC Irvine's second-fastest 200m with a time of 23.61 at the Beach Opener. She also took over the fifth spot in the 100m with a lifetime-best 11.64 at the Ben Brown Invitational. Teran was just behind Bartz, who clocked in at 11.60 to move up to No. 3 in school history. Bartz added a 200m PR of 23.97, which is fifth among the Anteater leaders. Sutherland is among the top-four in both the 100m (11.61) and 200m (23.69) with personal records that she established last year. In the 400m, Hernon (54.40) and
Ihe Okoh (54.85) cracked the all-time top-10, coming in at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.Â
RAISING THE BAR
The 'Eaters have built an impressive contingent in the high jump where they have four individuals ranked among the top-10 in program history.
Zharia Taylor, who was a second-team All-American in the event last year, is second with a personal-record 1.81 meters (5-11.25).
Esmeray Demirbas is also third (1.79m/5-10.5), while
Kailah McKenzie is fifth (1.77m/5-9.75). Taylor, Demirbas, and McKenzie were all 2025 Big West scorers and NCAA West First Round qualifiers. This season,
Joy Anderson cracked UCI's top-10 as her clearance of 1.73m (5-8) at the Triton Invitational is tied for sixth. McKenzie, who was also a regional qualifier in the long jump, has added the triple jump to her repertoire, making her debut in the event at the Vince O'Boyle Classic where she established the No. 4 mark in school history at 12.28m (40-3.5). The Anteaters are a threat in the pole vault this year as well with the return of
Alana Sugue, who missed last season with an injury. Last weekend, Sugue set a PR 4.01m (13-1.75) to move up to No. 2 among UC Irvine's all-time leaders.
THROWING IT OUT THERE
UC Irvine has already set a top-five mark in school history in three of the four throwing events this season.
Giselle Rodriguez kicked off her Anteater career with a personal-record 46.62m (152-11) at the Beach Opener to rank third among UCI's all-time javelin leaders. She then topped her PR at the Vince O'Boyle Classic with a winning throw of 48.38m (158-8) to move up one spot to No. 2.
DeAna Davis improved on her No. 2 distance in the hammer with a lifetime-best 57.66m (189-2) at the Ben Brown Invitational. She is just over seven feet shy of the school record.
Pinkie Schnayer also moved up to fifth in school history in the shot put at 14.94m (49-0.25).
