Anderson Leads Anteaters on Day 1 of Bryan Clay Multis

AZUSA, Calif. - UC Irvine women's track & field got out to a strong start in the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Multis Thursday at Azusa Pacific's Cougar Athletic Stadium.
 
Freshman Joy Anderson led the way with 3,470 points. She is fourth in Group A, and sits 80 points behind the leader, Hollan Powers of Arizona. Seniors Jolie Robinson (3,250) and Zharia Taylor (3,225) are ninth and 11th, respectively. Senior Jazzmine Davis is also third in Group B with 3,308 points.
 
Anderson started and ended the day with personal records that rank among the top-10 in program history. The Long Beach native crossed the 100m hurdle finish line in 13.89 seconds, which puts her eighth on UCI's all-time charts. In her fourth event of the afternoon, Anderson cracked the top-10 again, running the Anteaters' sixth-fastest 200m at 23.98. She also established a season-best 11.47m (37-7.75) in the shot put and cleared 1.71m (5-7.25) in the high jump.
 
Davis improved on her No. 3 time in school history in the 100H, running a personal-record 13.40. She followed with a season-best 1.53m (5-0.25) in the high jump. After recording a best of 11.46m (37-7.25) in the shot put, Davis closed out the day with a PR 24.18 in the 200m.
 
Robinson set season bests in the 100H (14.46), high jump (1.62m/5-3.75), and 200m (24.99). She also had the top shot put mark in Group A with a toss of 12.42m (40-9).
 
Taylor notched season bests in both the 100H (14.80) and high jump (1.77m/5-9.75). She was the only individual in Group A to clear the bar at 1.77 meters. Taylor added personal records in the shot put (11.15m/36-7) and 200m (25.84).
 
The 'Eaters return to APU tomorrow for the final three events of the heptathlon. Group B gets underway at 1 p.m., while Group A will follow at 2 p.m.
