SPOKANE, Wash. - Senior
Deandra Tyler won the shot put title to lead the UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team on the second and final day of the MPSF Championships Monday at The Podium.
Tyler led wire-to-wire as her first toss of 14.21 meters (46-7.5) put her at the top of the leaderboard. She bettered that mark on her second attempt at 14.93m (48-11.75), which stood as her best of the day and ended up winning the competition by over a foot.
Sophomore
Nyla Baker also made her way onto the podium in the shot put with a third-place finish (14.22m/46-8), while sophomore
Nadia Combs-Mahone was ninth with a personal-record 13.05m (42-9.75). Combs-Mahone cracked UCI's all-time top-10, coming in at No. 6.
In the triple jump, sophomore
Jackie Acosta established an indoor lifetime-best 10.85m (35-7.25).
On the track, junior
Reyna Johnson registered a personal-best 8.58 seconds to place fifth overall in the 60m hurdle final. She moved up one spot into a tie for fourth in program history. Johnson added to her individual point total after winning the long jump yesterday. Junior
Jazzmine Davis, who was eighth in the pentathlon on Sunday, also took seventh in the 60H (8.65).
Freshman
Hallena Sutherland scored in the 60m dash, coming in eighth with a time of 7.64 seconds.
Senior
Alexis Alexander scored with a seventh-place showing in the 800m. She crossed the finish line in a season-best 2:14.71.
Junior
Anna Vogtmann clocked in at 10:00.47 in her first indoor 3000m race. Vogtmann's time ranks fifth in program history.
Junior
Sameen Andar also entered UC Irvine's all-time top-10 in her first career indoor mile as her time of 5:03.22 is ninth among the Anteater leaders. Sophomore
Makena Castillo (5:09.15) and junior
Montgomery Allison (5:10.22) added lifetime bests.
Senior
Mia Marquez was just outside of scoring position in the 400m, taking ninth in 57.03 seconds. Sophomore
Lauren Aquino also notched a personal-record 57.55, which ranks ninth in school history, while senior
Bailey Moran ran a season-best 58.35.
The 'Eaters closed out the meet in the 4x400 relay where Davis, Aquino, Moran and Alexander placed seventh in a season-best 3:50.12. Their time ranks third in indoor school history.
As a team, UCI had a program-best fourth-place finish with 69.5 points.
