Palacios Captains Club America to Liga MX Title

MEXICO CITY, Mexico --- Anteater women's soccer alum Kiana Palacios and Club America of Liga MX Femenil captured the Torneo Clausura 2023 championship Tuesday afternoon for the club's second title.

Palacios, a four-year star for UC Irvine, joined the club ahead of the 2021-22 season. She earned the captain's band for the 2022-23 season returning to form with 15 goals in 22 matches of the Apertura season and added 13 more goals in the Clausura season. After finishing fourth and then reaching the Apertura final, Club America fell to UNAL, 3-0, on aggregate. Palacios helped power the club to a third-place finish in Clausura and back into the final winning, 4-2, on aggregate to claim the title, the club's second all-time and first since 2018.

The hardware adds to her collection which includes a Copa de la Reina title in her first year with Real Sociedad in Spain. Palacios scored 17 goals in 74 matches in her three years in Spain, and now in two years in Mexico has 29 goales in 51 matches while attaining the captaincy of one of Mexico's storied clubs.

Next up for the club is a meeting with UNAL again in the Campeon de Campeones, a two-legged title match between the winners of the two seasons in 2022-23.
