IRVINE, Calif. - Malcolm Overbaugh and
Jarel Sayles have been named to the Academic All-District® Men's Track & Field Team as announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Overbaugh was a Big West finalist in both the 100m and 200m, while he was also a member of UC Irvine's 4x100 (4th) and 4x400 (5th) relays. He established a wind-aided personal-record 10.56 in the 100m final, and ran the Anteaters' 10th-fastest 200m at 21.26 in the prelims. Earlier in the season, the Irvine native clocked in at 10.60 seconds in his first collegiate 100m race to tie for sixth in program history. Overbaugh is a two-time All-Big West performer, a two-time all-academic selection and 10-time Dean's List honoree. He graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering last year and is currently in the mechanical and aerospace engineering grad program.
Sayles made his way back to competition this year after missing the 2022 campaign with an injury. He placed among the top-15 in all eight of his 110-meter hurdle races. Sayles was the runner-up at the Vince O'Boyle Classic and established a personal-record 14.39 at the Battle in the OC. The Spring Valley, California, native was an All-Big West performer as a true freshman after finishing third in the 110H at the 2021 Big West Championships. Sayles is a junior academically and is majoring in urban studies.
To be considered for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, have participated in at least 50% of the team's meets, have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and be at least a sophomore both academically and athletically.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America selections will be announced on June 29.
