FULLERTON, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer defeated Cal Poly, 1-0, to win it's third consecutive Big West Championship Sunday afternoon in Titan Stadium.

- The match featured just two shots on goal and one that mattered as Mirayah Villalpando knocked home a pass from Suus de Bakker off a corner kick in the 40th minute to put the Anteaters on top, 1-0
- UC Irvine was flagged offside six times in the match including three times that negated goals
- Defense reigned supreme once again as the 'Eaters have now advanced through eight consecutive Big West Championship matches and all without allowing a goal
- Glo Hinojosa didn't even need to make a save as her defense in front of her helped secure her 35th career win and 30th career shutout
- Big West Championship MVP honors went to sophomore forward Emillie Castagna
- Villalpando's goal was the second of her season and career. Assists from de Bakker, her first this year, and Mihaela Perez her second
- Gianna Creighton, the Anteaters' midfield stalwart, played her 84th career match Sunday tying the program record while starting her 84th career match
- For UC Irvine, it is the program's fourth Big West Championship title and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament for a fifth time
