Ibarra, Cervantes Serve Emphatic 3-1 Win

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine men's soccer pushed all the right buttons Saturday night in Anteater Stadium to score a 3-1 win over UC San Diego and jump to second place in the Big West.

- Prior to the match, UC Irvine honored nine seniors with a Senior Night ceremony - Jake Means, Mario Anaya, Juan Barragan-Manzo, Samuel Atiye, Luke Pruter, Christian Gomez, Kellan Barry, Francesco Montanile, and Rafael Espinoza
- After a couple small chances early, the 'Eaters got on the board in the 12th minute. Oscar Cervantes started the counter up to Francesco Montanile who drove and fed Ricardo Ibarra to finish inside the left post for a 1-0 lead
- The Tritons were looking to equalize challenging Anteater keeper Luke Pruter three times in the next 20 minutes which he saved all three
- Emerging from the half with a 1-0 lead, the goals came fast and furious
- Ibarra jumped on his second goal of the night set up by Rafael Espinoza and Francesco Montanile as his ground ball got by the UCSD keeper before he could see it for a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute
- UC San Diego responded quickly scoring 20 seconds later on Inaki Iribarren's 11th goal of the year to make it 2-1
- The Anteaters would respond back with a third goal in the 57th minute off the foot of Oscar Cervantes with a beautiful strike from 35 yards into the upper left for the 3-1 lead
- The win positions the Anteaters up to second in the Big West on 16 points (5-3-1) and an 8-6-3 overall record. UCI will now host a semifinal on Saturday, November 4, and earn a first-round bye.
- Ibarra scores his first goals since his sophomore season doubling his career total now with four while collecting his first career game-winning goal
- Cervantes knocked home his second goal of the season and fourth of his career
- Francesco Montanile set up two goals on the night giving him four on the year to lead the team
- Other assists went to Samuel Atiye and Juan Barragan-Manzo, the second of the season for each, Cervantes going with his goal, and first assist on the season for Rafael Espinoza
- Luke Pruter finished with six saves on the night to claim his 15th win of his career
