· UC Irvine played twice over the last five days. It started Thursday with a non-conference loss Cal State Fullerton. After going down 1-0 on an 18th-minute goal,
Desiree Mendoza converted a penalty kick to equalize in the 23rd minute, but the game-winner came in the 58th minute on a header for the CSF win.
· Tuesday night the 'Eaters were back in Anteater Stadium entertaining the Nicholls Colonels. UCI got their second win of 2022 back a count of 5-1 from five different goal scorers.
Tati Fung produced the game-winner, her first as an Anteater, along with two assists. Making their collegiate debuts in the match were
Halli Stewart,
Emilie Castagna,
Niko Hadzibabic,
Mirayah Villalpando, and
Alyssa Wheeler. Fellow freshman
Ella Colombini recorded her first career point with an assist.
· The Anteaters claimed the win in their season opener over Cal, 1-0 much like their 2021 upset.
Alyssa Moore scored in the 57th minute.
Glo Hinojosa added her 11th career shutout as UCI runs its streak to three consecutive wins against the Pac-12
· Anteater Stadium popped off with 2,187 fans in attendance for the season opener. That marks the second crowd of over 2,000 fans in UCI soccer history, 24th crowd of over 1,000 fans, and the crowd mark a women's soccer record surpassing the 1,704 fans in 2018 and the rebreaks the UCI soccer regular season record.
· UCI has begun the year 2-0-1 at home running their streak to seven straight unbeaten in Anteater Stadium and 10-3-1 at home since the beginning of 2021.
· UCI's five Tuesday goals came from five different classes - first-year

· The Anteaters welcome San Jose State in that Friday match. The Spartans will be playing their first road match of 2022. It has played just two matches thus far, both at home, resulting in a 1-0 defeat to No. 5 Santa Clara and 3-0 loss to Saint Mary's.
· The Spartans and Anteaters have met 10 times with UCI winning eight and losing just twice. The last meeting was in 2016 in a neutral site match at Boise State. The sides played into double overtime with UCI winning, 2-1, on a Kelsey Texeira header with just 26 seconds remaining. The last time SJSU visited UCI was in 2006, a 1-0 victory in a season where UCI won three matches.
· SJSU was picked to finish eighth in the Mountain West. Scoring leaders Taylor Phillips (4 G, 4 A) and Evan House (2 G, 3 A) return. The Spartans played Big West foe Cal Poly in an exhibition to a 1-1 draw. SJSU was out-shot 17-8 in the match with the only tally coming as an own goal.
