Anteaters Continue Ascent in Pro Soccer

IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine women's soccer has enjoyed its success over the past decade-plus resulting in a steady flow of Anteaters earning their stripes on the professional ranks. Currently, there are 11 'Eaters playing professionally across the U.S., Mexico, England, Denmark, the Netherlands, Greece, Spain, and Serbia with most in the top flight, and more potentially on the way. Here we update on each alum's season and career to date:

Kiana Palacios - The scoring star for the Anteaters from 2014-17 made the leap to the NWSL signing with Utah Royals FC for a record transfer fee. She returns to the United States after five successful seasons with LigaMX's Club America scoring 91 goals over 176 competitions making her the club's all-time leading goal scorer. During her time, America secured a league title in 2023 and success in the CONCACAF Champions Cup over the last two seasons. She continues to be a main cog with the Mexican National Team as well with 13 goals over 51 international caps and looking to guide the squad to spots in the upcoming 2027 Women's World Cup and 2028 Olympics Games. Her career began back in 2018 where she played in Spain for Real Sociedad and even captained them to a Copa de la Reina title in her first year.

Tati Fung - UCI's linchpin to the successful 2022 and 2023 seasons is in the middle of her second professional season in the Gainbridge Super League. After 21 matches for Fort Lauderdale United, she made the move to Lexington Sporting Club where she's played 17 matches starting 15 with the club currently in second place 

Scarlett Camberos - The former Big West Offensive Player of the Year is still striving at Club American in Mexico back for her fourth overall season. She's up to 12 goals in 25 matches giving her 39 goals in 82 career matches with Club America. She continues her play with the Mexican National Team now with five goals across 22 career competitions including one in a CONCACAF qualifier in November.

Sophie Gillies - The attacker is back for a second season playing for her pre-college club in Exeter City FC in her home country. After a 17-goal season a year ago, she and the Grecians are middle of the table in the Women's National League South.

Laila El Behery - The Egyptian striker continues to rise with Danish top-tier club FC Nordsjaelland. She has eight goals in all competitions including four over six UEFA Europa Cup matches as the squad reached the quarterfinals. She managed three goals in 2025 on the international level with the Egyptian National Team and is set to play in the upcoming African Cup of Nations this summer.

Niko Hadzibabic - The one-year Anteater continues to flourish in Serbia for top-flight club Crvena Zvezda. She's been part of their Champions League run in each of the past two seasons playing in three matches

Desiree Mendoza - Mendoza has appeared in 14 matches in her first season in LigaMX alongside Palacios, Camberos, and Club America. Her club Cruz Azul is currently top half of the table.

Suus de Bakker - The five-year Anteater star returned to her home country of the Netherlands signing earlier this year, and has already started and played in two matches for Hera United in the country's top flight

Aveka Singh - Singh is playing just down the road from El Behery in the Danish second tier with Naestved HG where she's scored twice in limited action. She got her big call-up to India's National Team for the Asian Cup Qualifiers this month and was a starter in their match against Japan

Chloe Ragon - Ragon has picked up in Spain with Granada CF's B squad in the past year

Mady Solow - A 2013 Anteater alum continues their extensive pro career. After returning to her home country of Canada and playing a couple seasons of pro soccer there, she began her European journey which has now spanned 12 years and over 200 matches going from Iceland to Italy to Switzerland, back to Italy then on to Spain, England, and this year in Greece. Solow is in her second year with Agia Paraskevi, currently seventh in the top tier of Greek football, and has scored once with them driving her career scoring total to 22 goals

Janelly Farías - The star of field and social media officially retired at the conclusion of the 2025 season of a career that spanned 148 matches over eight seasons primarily in Mexico with one stop in Cyprus. Primarily as a defender, she managed to score 22 times between her four Mexican clubs. Farias also had an extensive career with the Mexican National Team receiving 13 caps.
