Gillis, Tangutur Named to U.S. Beach Collegiate National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sophomore Cole Gillis and junior Akhil Tangutur have been named to the 2022 U.S. Beach Collegiate National Team (BCNT) as announced by USA Volleyball.
The Anteater duo are two of 16 men on the roster who will attend a training block at the Chula Vista Elite Athletic Training Center, June 12-18.
The men's athletes hail from seven USA Volleyball regions and 11 colleges. Eight athletes are from the Southern California region, and two each are from the Aloha and Florida regions. UCI is one of four schools with two representatives on the squad.
Cal Poly women's beach volleyball assistant Joe Rich will serve as the men's head coach and he will be assisted by Lewis head coach Dan Friend.
Gillis averaged 2.15 kills and 1.09 digs per set this season, while Tangutur put up 44 kills and 37 digs in 61 sets played. Both Gillis and Tangutur earned Big West All-Freshman Team honors earlier in their collegiate careers.
