UC Irvine Wins Inaugural Vince O'Boyle T&F Classic

IRVINE, Calif. -
UC Irvine had a strong showing across the board on Saturday to win the inaugural Vince O'Boyle Track & Field Classic at Anteater Stadium.
 
The 'Eaters were leading by one point heading into the discus finals where they went 1-2-3 for the team victory. The sweep increased their point total to 166 as they came in ahead of UC San Diego (150), UC Santa Barbara (119), Azusa Pacific (94) and UC Riverside (93).
 
Jacob Hawkins led the way in the final event, earning his second career win in the discus. He opened the competition with a personal-record 177-09 and that mark stood as the best of the day. Hawkins bettered his previous PR by over a foot and moved up to No. 8 in school history. Noah Holm (174-04) claimed runner-up honors, while Kyle Tsu took third with a season-best 173-09.
 
Holm kept his shot put streak alive, winning the event for the fourth time in as many meets. He finished ahead of the field with a toss of 57-00.75, and Tsu came in second with a season-best 56-03.25. Quincy Stokes (50-02.50) and Hawkins (50-00) were also fourth and sixth, respectively.
 
Decathlete Josh Farmer added an individual victory in the pole vault, clearing a lifetime-best 15-05. He also had a season-best 128-03 in the discus, and was third in his 2022 long jump debut (23-04.75). Seth Enochs beat Farmer out by three-quarters of an inch in the long jump as he was the runner-up with a leap of 23-05.5.
 
On the track, Ty Sheridan and Malcolm Overbaugh both posted top-three finishes in the 200m and 400m. Sheridan was second in the 200m with a personal-best 21.81, and Overbaugh was right on his heels in third at 21.88. The two switched positions in the 400m, with Overbaugh taking second in a season-best 49.00, and Sheridan coming in third with a lifetime-best 49.02.
 
Eric Parker added a collegiate personal-best 22.24 in the 200m and a season-best 49.71 in the 400m. Miles Duncan also notched a collegiate PR to place fourth in the 400m (49.06).
 
Drew Pickett competed in both hurdle events, finishing second in the 110H (14.81) and third in the 400H (56.21).
 
Lukas Amare led seven Anteaters in the 1500m, clocking in at 3:54.47 to place third. Zeid Hussain contributed a top-five showing at 3:55.01, while Cameron Smith (3:58.99) and AJ Sager (3:59.75) registered lifetime bests. Amare was also UCI's top performer in the 800m with a time of 1:57.75 (6th).
 
The 'Eaters had a solid outing in their first 4x100 relay of the season with Carlo Reyes, Overbaugh, Parker and Enochs combining for a second-place performance (41.42).
 
Up next for UC Irvine is the Challenge Cup at Long Beach State on Friday, April 8.
