UC Irvine Wraps up First Day of Action in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Four Anteaters were in action Friday, kicking off the three-day San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.
 
Senior Matthew Sah and sophomore Noah Zamora teamed up for a 6-3 win over Denver's Charlie Miller/Conner Olson in their first doubles match of the season. The UC Irvine duo then fell to host San Diego's Stian Klaassen/Lambert Ruland, 6-2, in the second round.
 
Graduate transfer Enrique Luque Rico and sophomore transfer Brandon Park also went 1-1 in their UCI doubles debut. The 'Eaters bounced back from a 6-3 loss to Denver with a hard-fought 7-6 (7) victory over USD's Christian Kuehne/Nikhil Niranjan.

In singles, UC Irvine went 2-2 against Navy. Park earned a straight-set win, taking down Sasha Panyan, 6-4, 6-3. Zamora also notched his third victory of the young season as he upended Gavin Segraves, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-2.
 
The San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic continues Saturday starting with doubles at 9 a.m.
