 · The Black & Blue Rivalry Series came to Anteater Stadium Sunday night finishing in a 1-1 draw. The 'Eaters sprung on the attack with 12 shots to 1 in the first half and finished with a 17-8 advantage. UCI also took a 1-0 lead into the locker room on a marvelous shot by Erin Covey. The Beach knotted things up in the 66th minute. UCI remains unbeaten in the last three meetings with their rival
· Erin Covey knocked in her first career goal in her 24th career match Sunday. Emilie Castagna added her first career assist on the play. Covey will be recognized along with fellow seniors Hannah Roberts, Halli Stewart, Chloe Ragon, Alyssa Moore, and Gianna Creighton following Thursday night's match.
· The string of shutouts for the Anteater defense ended on Long Beach State's 66th minute strike. The shutout streak reached 281:49 spanning five matche. Glo Hinojosa added four saves for 123 in her career, and her shutout streak joins the stretch of 554:57 at the end of the 2021 season.
· The Anteaters have a trio of players that reached 50 career matches last week, something 92 Anteaters have reached all-time. Destinee Manzo played her 50th matchup at UC Davis scoring the equalizer in a 2-2 match. Gianna Creighton and Maddy Chavez each hit 50 matches Sunday along with posting a shutout vs. CSUB
· Mendoza converted her penalty kick at UC Riverside making her 2-for-2 on the year. Tati Fung also has a PK convert for a perfect 3-for-3 on the year. UC Irvine as a team is true from the spot in its last nine attempts last missing one in 2019.
· Anteater Stadium welcomed in 1,032 fans on Sunday, a second crowd of 1,000+ for women's soccer and third in the stadium between men and women. Women's soccer has now had 11 crowds of over 1,000 in its history, and this season joins the 2010, 2011, and 2017 squads to each have multiple crowds in one season.
· Sunday's match featured a red card after Alex Jaquez was shown her second caution in the 83rd minute. Jaquez will miss Thursday's matchup vs. CSUN. UCI's six yellow cards are least in the conference while the red is the first for the Big West.
· UC Irvine and CSUN matchup once again after the two met in non-conference. The 'Eaters won the August match, 2-1, in a match that was postponed a day after threats of violence on campus with Jaquez setting up both goals by Sophie Gillies and Desiree Mendoza. The Matadors have won once and drawn once since the meeting and sit at 2-12-1. CSUN sits bottom of the conference with one point and two goals through five matches. Cindy Arteaga claims six of their nine goals including a PK vs. UCI on 56 shots and half of the team's shots on goal.
